How to Save $4,000 a Year

Interested? John Lott tells us how it can be done in his editorial yesterday about the Baucus health care bill.

Here's how it goes:

  1. Drop your insurance and immediately save money from not paying the premium.

  2. Pay the fine as required in the new legislation. This is all of $0 right now and will reach $750 by the year 2013.

  3. If you get sick with something big like cancer, buy insurance. The insurance company can't turn you down under this legislation.

And remember, this is annual savings, not over several years.

The legislation and the CBO's estimates assume everyone will buy insurance. But there is no incentive to buy it if you're healthy. It's cheaper to pay the fine and buy insurance when you need it.
