Obama's Chief Diversity Officer for the FCC, Mark Lloyd, is a member of the Communist Party USA and believes Hugo Chavez is just trying to implement a popular democracy in Venezuela. Chavez has been shutting down media outlets that he does not agree with, such as the 34 stations he closed last month (1). CNN reports that 106 more were "at risk" of being shut down (2). Diosdado Cabello, minister of Public Works and Housing in Venezuela, said, "Freedom of expression is not the most sacred freedom."
He praised Paul Robeson, the communist actor and singer who was an apologist for Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. Robeson supported Stalin and even accepted his "Peace Prize" in 1952. One year later Robeson delivered a tribute to Stalin entitled, "To You Beloved Comrade," in which he said, "Glory to Stalin." Lloyd declared, "...media bias led to the persecution of Paul Robeson and the promotion of Joe McCarthy." (3) The video of that testimony can be found here.
Robeson was an associate of Frank Marshall Davis, another black Communist Party USA member who served as Barack Obama's mentor when he was a child in Hawaii. Davis had called Robeson "the great one." (4)
Lloyd is also a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank whose seed money came in part by George Soros. Time Magazine recently declared that there is "no group in Washington with more influence at this moment in history." Major individual donors include George Soros, Peter Lewis, Steve Bing, and Herb and Marion Sandler. The Center receives undisclosed sums from corporate donors. (5)
Lloyd wrote in his book Prologue to a Farce: Communications and Democracy in America, "The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) must be reformed along democratic lines and funded on a substantial level. Federal and regional broadcast operations and local stations should be funded at levels commensurate with or above those spending levels at which commercial operations are funded. This funding should come from license fees charged to commercial broadcasters. Funding should not come from congressional appropriations. Sponsorship should be prohibited at all public broadcasters." (6) In other words, take away the profits of broadcasters that work for a living, and give them to the public radio, which does not need it.
