The Vanishing 45 Million Without Health Care Insurance

The politicians are pounding home the idea that 45 million Americans don't have health care insurance. Obama quotes it constantly. But they are being disingenuous because they know the number isn't that high (1).

As a matter of fact, when you subtract those pesky illegal aliens, people covered by a spouse's health insurance plan, seniors covered by Medicare and those that can afford but don't want health insurance, only 11 million American citizens who want health care insurance are without it. That's 4% of the U.S. population.

And let's not confuse "health care" with "health care insurance". There is not a person in the U.S., illegals included, that can't walk into a private hospital or county health agency and be turned away. So why the rush to take over so much of the U.S. economy and consolidate so much power with the federal government?

If you are going to blindly believe the press and politicians, go ahead. But if you want to intelligently argue for or against the issue, having the facts is a good place to start.
