Court: The Government Can't Depend on God

Franklin Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate ruled that a 2006 state law that required the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security to stress "dependence on Almighty God as being vital to the security of the commonwealth" is unconstitutional, saying it violates the First Amendment's separation of church and state.

The judge says it is there to protect the minority from the oppression of the majority. But who will protect the majority from the tyranny of the minority -- or the judiciary?

At least the atheists are happy. Edwin Kagin, a Boone County lawyer and national legal director for American Atheists, said, "I think we can all feel a little safer now."
